Anesthesiology research

The Department of Anesthesiology at Wayne State University School of Medicine is committed to advancing the science and practice of anesthesiology through innovative, collaborative, and impactful research. Our department fosters a culture of inquiry that spans the basic, clinical, and translational sciences, with a focus on improving perioperative care, pain management, patient safety, and critical care outcomes.

Faculty and residents actively engage in research that addresses pressing clinical questions and explores new technologies, pharmacologic advances, and data-driven approaches to enhance patient care. Our partnerships with leading institutions—including the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), Children's Hospital of Michigan, and Trinity Health—enable interdisciplinary collaborations that strengthen both the academic and clinical research enterprise.

We are particularly proud of our efforts to integrate research into M.D. and residency training, empowering the next generation of physician-scientists to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine.
