Detroit Medical Center Pediatric Anesthesiology
The department of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Children's Hospital of Michigan provides ample research and Quality Improvement (QI) opportunities. Trainees of all types rotating in our program are encouraged to participate with our WSU faculty. Specific types of projects exist within the realm of Pediatric Anesthesiology, including research within Cardiothoracic surgery, Trauma, Neurosurgery, and Chronic Pain.
Vision
Our department demonstrates its commitment to advancing the pediatric anesthesia specialty through research endeavors that lends itself to clinical excellence and education. All research projects are tailored to ensure our outcomes drive our day to day practice. Our ultimate goal is to design studies such as: investigator initiated prospective, retrospective and quality based projects. Our approach is to provide safe care while searching for the best possible outcomes that contributes to medical knowledge and practice improvement.
Teamwork plays a key role when it comes to our department's vision for an entire clinical research life cycle from start to finish. We continue to grow and improve our research expertise for clinical and quality-based projects.

Fellows
Our research department is dedicated to helping fellows create insightful, excellent projects that qualify for publication and presentation. Our research coordinator meets with fellows quarterly from start to finish to discuss these projects and ensure success.
Our fellows have presented in numerous special conferences including ASA, Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA), and Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia Society (CCAS).
QI projects, now a requirement for completion of fellowship, provide insight for fellows to improve various systems within their work. Our fellows have presented in the Southeast Michigan CME QI Summit and the Detroit Medical Center's Quality Education and Safe Systems Training (QuESST) Research Day to share QI projects with various professionals.
Access our QI project guidelines given to all fellows.
Rotating residents and other trainees
Many opportunities exist for rotating trainees in our program, including medical students. We work closely with the research department for anesthesiology at Harper Hospital in Detroit Medical Center to create projects that include pediatric patients. Please do not hesitate to contact our research coordinator for more information.
