Dr. Marsh graduated with his medical degree from the University of Sydney, Australia. He then started his anesthesiology residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, before continuing that training at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine in Minnesota.
After residency, he became a clinical associate in anesthesiology at Toronto Western Hospital in Canada, before becoming director of Intensive Care and a staff anesthesiologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He later became a staff anesthesiologist and critical care medicine specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. In 1989, he became residency program director and chair of anesthesiology for the Henry Ford Health System, and later transferred over to the Wayne State University School of Medicine as Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology from 1998 to 2012.
