Hour Detroit honors hundreds of Wayne State Warriors as Top Docs

Doctors directly connected to the Wayne State University School of Medicine as clinical teaching faculty, alumni, or both make up an impressive 40% of the more than 1,300 “2020 Top Docs” honored by Hour Detroit magazine this month.

“To all the Hour Detroit Top Docs, on behalf of the Wayne State School of Medicine, I cannot say enough how proud we are of our faculty and alumni. You personify the ‘Warrior’ spirit and we are honored to have you in our family, as well as all Wayne State University physicians who work tirelessly to serve and educate our students, patients and the community,” said Dean and Vice President of Health Affairs Mark Schweitzer, M.D. “You are creating the future of medicine through your work today.”

Top doctors are nominated exclusively by M.D.s and D.O.s in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston counties. Winning physicians are not selected by any member of the Hour Detroit staff. Doctors’ names and specialties are taken from an online peer-review survey submitted by physicians. Hour Detroit tabulates the votes and fact-checks names and affiliations of winners.

In addition to the annual list, Hour Detroit also highlighted “Top Doctors and Their Heroes” for their lifesaving work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among them was Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Class of 2002 graduate Rana Awdish, M.D., who selected Judith Gray-Davis, a nurse assistant at Henry Ford Hospital; Associate Professor of Urology Muzammil Ahmed, M.D., who selected Judy Weber, a housekeeper at Beaumont Wayne.
